Golden Purslane β€” The Bright Yellow-Green Heirloom With the Highest Omega-3 of Any Crop

Golden Purslane is the upright, golden-hued cousin of common purslane β€” sharing the same exceptional nutritional profile but with striking bright yellow-green succulent leaves and a more upright, elegant habit that makes it as attractive as it is nutritious. Purslane has the highest concentration of healthy omega-3 fatty acids (Ξ±-linolenic acid) of any crop, and is also rich in antioxidants and Vitamin C. The juicy, succulent oval leaves have a mild sweet-sour flavor that is excellent raw in salads, added to stir-fries and soups, or used as an attractive garnish. Leaves can also be pickled for storage. Grown in herb gardens for centuries and native to Europe, Golden Purslane is a fast-growing, easy-care annual that re-grows readily after cutting. Non-GMO and open-pollinated.

Why Grow Golden Purslane?

  • Bright yellow-green color β€” more visually striking than common green purslane
  • Upright habit β€” elegant and easy to harvest
  • Highest omega-3 of any crop β€” plus antioxidants & Vitamin C
  • Mild sweet-sour flavor β€” excellent raw, cooked or pickled
  • Attractive garnish β€” beautiful on the plate
  • Re-grows after cutting β€” continuous harvest all season

Growing Notes

Direct sow outdoors after last frost in full sun to part shade. Scatter seeds on prepared soil surface and press lightly β€” seeds need light to germinate. Keep soil consistently moist until established. Thin to 6 inches apart (6 plants per sq ft). Thrives in warm weather and tolerates poor, dry soils once established. Harvest young leaves and stems regularly β€” plants re-grow readily after cutting. Avoid overwatering.
