The Charentais is a melon that originated in the Poitou-Charentes region of western France circa 1920. the French Charentais types have thick, firm, orange flesh and a small seed cavity. Their smooth, blue-green skin turns yellow when ripe, and the melons slip easily from their stems. Charentais is considered the best melon ever developed because of its high sugar content, smooth texture, and ambrosial fragrance. Almost one hundred years ago, the Randon family brought the Charentais, widely considered one of the sweetest melons, to fruition. 90 days to maturity
