Flame (Lactuca sativa) is a striking red leaf lettuce heirloom — deeply frilled, brilliant red leaves with excellent heat tolerance and slow-bolting habit. Beautiful in the garden and on the plate. Tender, mild flavor. Excellent for cut-and-come-again harvesting. Open-pollinated and non-GMO.
Direct sow outdoors in early spring or fall, or start indoors 4–6 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep, thinning to 6–8 inches apart. Prefers cool weather but tolerates heat well. Water consistently. Harvest outer leaves as needed or cut entire plant at 2 inches above soil for regrowth.

The seeds arrived around the estimated time of arrival. They were well packaged and looked good. I planted a few 3 days ago and I've already got sprouts.
I hope these flowers will grow in North Dakota! The colors are vibrant and hopefully the bees will like them. I will have to wait until after the Big Thaw in April before I can plant them - can't wait!
