Evergreen Hardy White β€” The Welsh-Type Bunching Onion That Survives -30Β°F and Overwinters in Northern States

Evergreen Hardy White is one of the most cold-hardy bunching onions available β€” a Welsh-type heirloom that is highly resistant to freezing and may be left in the ground year-round. It reliably overwinters in northern states where temperatures can reach -30Β°F, making it a true four-season crop. Sow all season long for continuous harvests, or overwinter for an early spring treat. Impressive triple disease resistance to thrips, smut, and pink root. In the second year, divide clumps to produce a new crop β€” it can be grown as an annual or allowed to develop into a productive, self-renewing dense patch. 65 days.

Why Grow Evergreen Hardy White?

  • Survives -30Β°F β€” one of the most cold-hardy bunching onions available
  • Overwinters in northern states β€” leave in the ground year-round
  • Welsh-type bunching onion β€” classic non-bulbing scallion type
  • Triple disease resistance β€” resistant to thrips, smut & pink root
  • Sow all season long β€” continuous harvests spring through fall
  • Divide clumps in year 2 β€” self-renewing, grows into a productive dense patch
  • Open-pollinated heirloom β€” save seed year after year

Growing Notes

Direct sow outdoors in early spring (as soon as soil can be worked) through late summer. Sow seeds β…› inch deep, thinly, in rows 12 inches apart in full sun. Thin to 1–2 inches apart. Can also be started indoors 8–10 weeks before last frost. For overwintering, sow in late summer and mulch lightly after hard frost. Divide clumps in the second year to expand your patch. Harvest as needed β€” cut leaves from the outside and the plant will continue producing.
