White Yarrow β€” The Ancient Medicinal Perennial With Pearl-White 5" Flower Clusters That Last for Months

White Yarrow (Achillea millefolium), also known as Common Yarrow, is one of the most beautiful and useful perennial herbs you can grow. A member of the daisy family, it develops elegant fern-like foliage, deep soil-nurturing roots, and massive clusters of 20–25 pearl-white flowers measuring about 5 inches across β€” blooms that last for months in the garden and make stunning cut flowers. As a medicinal herb, yarrow has been used for centuries for its astringent, wound-healing properties and its richness in vitamins and minerals. The deep roots help nurture and improve garden soil, making yarrow a beneficial companion plant throughout the garden. A hardy, low-maintenance perennial that returns reliably year after year. Blooms in its second year from seed.

Why Grow White Yarrow?

  • Massive pearl-white 5" flower clusters β€” 20–25 flowers per cluster, lasting months
  • Ancient medicinal herb β€” historically used for wound healing, astringent & vitamin-rich
  • Soil-nurturing deep roots β€” improves garden soil as a companion plant
  • Fern-like aromatic foliage β€” beautiful texture in the garden
  • Hardy perennial β€” returns reliably year after year
  • Open-pollinated heirloom β€” save seed year after year

Growing Notes

Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost or direct sow outdoors in spring or fall. Surface sow β€” yarrow seeds need light to germinate, do not cover deeply. Press seeds lightly into moist soil. Transplant outdoors after frost danger has passed, spacing plants 12–18 inches apart in full sun. Yarrow thrives in poor, well-draining soil β€” avoid rich or overly moist conditions. Blooms in its second year from seed. Drought tolerant once established. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continued blooming.
