A staple of Mexican cuisine, Serrano is a hot, sweet pepper with excellent flavor and serious punch. Slim pods grow up to 4 inches long with medium-thin walls, maturing from green to a bright red on productive 30-inch plants. With a heat level of 10,000–23,000 SHU — significantly hotter than a jalapeño — Serrano delivers the bold, clean heat that defines authentic salsa verde, pico de gallo, and countless Mexican dishes. Exceptional fresh, sliced into dishes, or pickled.
One of the most versatile and productive hot peppers you can grow — a must for any salsa garden.
Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before last frost. Sow ¼ inch deep in sterile media with 85°F bottom heat and bright light. Germination in 7–21 days. Transplant outdoors after frost danger has passed, spacing plants 18–24 inches apart in full sun. Water consistently. Harvest green for maximum heat or allow to ripen fully to red.
