Black Garbanzo Beans (Cicer arietinum) are a rare treat — fresh or dried — and genuinely fun to grow. Tolerant of cooler soils and cooler climates than standard garbanzo beans, Black Garbanzo is an excellent choice for spring or fall crops and will yield well in short-growing areas with no problem. Very nutritious, containing vitamins A and C, calcium, iron, and magnesium — rich in protein, calcium, iron, and B vitamins. Great for making homemade hummus, sprouting for raw protein, and a wide range of culinary uses. Yield more with frequent picking to encourage new blooms. 90–100 days to mature.
Direct sow outdoors after last frost when soil has warmed. Tolerates cooler soils — suitable for spring and fall crops. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 4–6 inches apart, in rows 18–24 inches apart. Full sun. Water consistently. Pick frequently to encourage new blooms and higher yields.
