Nonbulbing type. Uniform and Vigorous strain is slow to bolt. Leaves are an excellent addition to salads, coleslaw, and dressings. A POLLINATOR FAVORITE! Decorative bronze lacy foliage. Its unusual color makes a sophisticated addition to salads or an elegant garnish. Seeds may be used like those of any fennel. Its beautiful bronze hue adds an intriguing contrast to herb gardens, container gardens, and borders. Let it flower: its bushy yellow blooms host swallowtail butterflies, and the anise-flavored seeds are delicious in baking, meat dishes, and more. It grows quickly, spreads easily, and self-sows. USDA zones 5-11.
Fennel does not transplant well and is best sown directly when the soil is warm enough. Soaking the seeds for a day or two before planting ensures better germination. Pick a well-drained, sunny location and plant seeds ½" deep, 8-12" apart. Keep well-watered until established.
