Cushaw Orange Stripe, Winter Squash
The Cushaw varieties, known as both squash and pumpkins, include the Orange Striped Cushaw, which adds a colorful twist to the traditional Green-Striped Cushaw. This heirloom variety has a rich history in Southern American cuisine, especially in pies and stews. With creamy, tender golden flesh and a sweet, nutty flavor, it has been a staple in recipes for generations.
The fruits grow about 20 inches long, with a thick base and curved necks. Use them in fall displays or as a unique substitute for pumpkin in pies. They can also be added to stews, roasted, or mashed for a creamy side dish. Additionally, Cushaw can be harvested for its edible seeds, shoots, and flowers. 110 days to maturity.
