Southern Giant Curled, Mustard,
Southern Giant Curled Mustard won the prestigious AAS Gold Medal Award in 1935. When grown in cool weather, Southern Giant Curled has a mild flavor and makes a great addition to your vegetable garden and salad. Large, bright green fringed and curled leaves Mild flavor. It is incredibly delicious when cooked like spinach! Pick this mustard leaf by leaf for eating (instead of uprooting the entire plant.) Frost just improves the flavor and color. This variety is highly productive, slow to bolt to seed, and extremely winter hardy. They will grow outside through the winter, even under snow. 45 days (mature) or 25 days (baby greens).
Mustard greens originated in the Himalayan region of northern India, where they have been growing for thousands of years. This peppery vegetable is also used in Chinese, Japanese, and African cuisines. Though not well known in most parts of the United States, mustard greens are a traditional part of the culture in the southern region.
