Yellow Gem (Citrullus lanatus) is a heat-tolerant heirloom icebox watermelon producing 14–16-pound oval fruits with a medium rind and large dark stripes. The flesh is bright yellow, crisp, and very sweet — a striking and delicious alternative to red-fleshed varieties. 80 days.
Start indoors 3–4 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors after all frost danger has passed into warm soil in full sun. Give vines plenty of room to run. Water consistently. Harvest when the belly turns yellow and the tendril nearest the fruit dries.
