Tennis Ball (Lactuca sativa) is one of Americaβs oldest heirloom lettuces β grown by Thomas Jefferson at Monticello and documented in American gardens since the early 1800s. Small, compact butterhead heads with soft, tender, buttery leaves and a mild, sweet flavor. Named for its round, tennis-ball-sized heads. A genuine piece of American horticultural history. Open-pollinated and non-GMO.
Direct sow outdoors in early spring or fall, or start indoors 4β6 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds ΒΌ inch deep, thinning to 6β8 inches apart. Prefers cool weather. Water consistently. Harvest when heads are firm and round.
