Tendersweet is the carrot for gardeners who want maximum flavor and versatility from a single variety. A true coreless type, it produces beautiful 10-inch, deep orange roots that are 1Β½ inches wide, tapered at the ends, and topped with distinctive purple-tinged leaves. The deep orange flesh holds its color through cooking β no fading, no loss of vibrancy β making it exceptional for canning, juicing, and eating raw. It also freezes better than the similar Imperator type, making it a standout choice for preserving the harvest.
Sweet, tender, and productive, Tendersweet is equally at home in raised beds, containers, and open garden rows.
Direct sow outdoors 2β4 weeks before last frost in loose, deep, well-draining soil free of rocks and clumps. Sow seeds ΒΌ inch deep, Β½ inch apart, in rows 12 inches apart. Thin to 2β3 inches for full-sized roots. Water consistently and evenly β irregular watering causes cracking. Harvest at 70 days or when roots reach desired size.
