Tendersweet Carrot β€” The Coreless Heirloom Built for Juicing, Canning & Fresh Eating

Tendersweet is the carrot for gardeners who want maximum flavor and versatility from a single variety. A true coreless type, it produces beautiful 10-inch, deep orange roots that are 1Β½ inches wide, tapered at the ends, and topped with distinctive purple-tinged leaves. The deep orange flesh holds its color through cooking β€” no fading, no loss of vibrancy β€” making it exceptional for canning, juicing, and eating raw. It also freezes better than the similar Imperator type, making it a standout choice for preserving the harvest.

Sweet, tender, and productive, Tendersweet is equally at home in raised beds, containers, and open garden rows.

Why Grow Tendersweet?

  • Truly coreless β€” tender all the way through, no tough center
  • Deep orange flesh that won’t fade β€” holds color through cooking and canning
  • 10 inches long, 1Β½ inches wide β€” substantial, well-formed roots
  • Freezes better than Imperator β€” excellent for long-term storage
  • Ideal for juicing, canning & fresh eating β€” versatile in the kitchen
  • Open-pollinated heirloom β€” save seed year after year

Growing Notes

Direct sow outdoors 2–4 weeks before last frost in loose, deep, well-draining soil free of rocks and clumps. Sow seeds ΒΌ inch deep, Β½ inch apart, in rows 12 inches apart. Thin to 2–3 inches for full-sized roots. Water consistently and evenly β€” irregular watering causes cracking. Harvest at 70 days or when roots reach desired size.
