Red Cored Chantenay (Daucus carota) is a bright golden-orange heirloom carrot that is fine-grained and tender even when very large — known for its sweet, delicate flavor that holds up beautifully through the full growing season. Smooth, thick roots about 6 inches long perform excellently in heavy or shallow soils and adverse climates, producing excellent quality yields where other varieties struggle. Its ability to produce well in shallow soil makes it a genuine bonus for container gardens. Harvest early for baby carrots or leave to grow for maximum yield. 65 days.
Direct sow outdoors 2–4 weeks before last frost or in late summer for fall harvest. Sow seeds ⅛ inch deep in any soil type. Thin to 2–3 inches apart. Full sun. Keep soil consistently moist. Harvest early for baby carrots or allow to reach full size at 65 days.
