Red Burgundy is a classic short-day heirloom onion perfectly suited for Southern regions, producing beautiful 4-inch round bulbs with a glossy, dark purple-red skin. Soft white flesh with attractive red rings is very mild and sweet — an excellent slicing variety for fresh salads, burgers, and any dish where you want onion flavor without the bite. Good Pink Root tolerance makes it a reliable performer in Southern gardens. Best enjoyed fresh — does not store long-term. 100–120 days.

Growing Notes

Direct sow or transplant in fall for spring harvest in Southern regions (Zones 7–10). In Northern regions, start indoors in late winter and transplant in early spring. Space plants 4–6 inches apart (16 per square foot) in full sun with fertile, well-draining soil. Water consistently. Harvest when tops begin to fall over and dry. Best for fresh use — does not store well long-term.
