Oregon Delicious — The Honey-Sweet Heirloom Cantaloupe That Earns Its Name

There’s a reason this variety is called Oregon Delicious — it delivers on flavor in a way that grocery store melons simply can’t match. This classic heirloom cantaloupe produces richly aromatic, honey-sweet flesh with that deep, sun-warmed fragrance that fills the kitchen the moment you slice it open. Thick netting on the skin, a compact vine habit, and reliable production make it a standout choice for home gardeners who want a melon that’s as beautiful as it is delicious.

Open-pollinated and non-GMO, Oregon Delicious is a variety you can save seed from year after year — a true heirloom worth growing in any garden with a long enough warm season.

Why Grow Oregon Delicious Cantaloupe?

  • Honey-sweet, aromatic flesh — rich, deep flavor that store-bought melons can’t replicate
  • Classic heirloom variety — time-tested Pacific Northwest heritage with proven garden performance
  • Heavily netted skin — beautiful, classic cantaloupe appearance at harvest
  • Reliable producer — consistent yields from a vigorous, well-adapted vine
  • Open-pollinated — save seed year after year from your best fruits
  • Non-GMO, USA grown — selected for flavor, resilience, and garden performance

Growing Notes

Direct sow outdoors after last frost when soil has thoroughly warmed to at least 70°F, or start indoors 3–4 weeks before transplanting. Plant in hills of 2–3 seeds, spacing hills 3–4 feet apart with rows 5–6 feet apart. Thin to the strongest plant per hill. Melons need consistent moisture during fruit development but benefit from reduced watering as fruits approach maturity — this concentrates sugars and intensifies flavor. Harvest when the stem slips easily from the fruit with gentle pressure.
