Giant Caesar — The Heirloom Romaine Built for Big, Crisp, Restaurant-Quality Salad Heads

If you’ve ever wanted to grow the kind of tall, dense romaine heads you see at a great restaurant — the ones with that satisfying crunch and clean, slightly sweet flavor — Giant Caesar is your variety. This classic heirloom romaine produces impressively large, upright heads with tightly packed, thick-ribbed leaves that stay crisp from garden to table. It’s the lettuce that makes a Caesar salad worth making from scratch.

Slower to bolt than many romaine types, Giant Caesar gives you a longer harvest window in both spring and fall. Open-pollinated and non-GMO, it’s a variety you can save seed from year after year.

Why Grow Giant Caesar Lettuce?

  • Impressively large romaine heads — tall, dense, and full of crisp, thick-ribbed leaves
  • Classic Caesar salad flavor — clean, slightly sweet, and satisfying crunch
  • Slower to bolt — longer harvest window than many romaine varieties
  • Cold-tolerant — excellent for spring and fall growing seasons
  • Open-pollinated heirloom — save seed year after year from your best heads
  • Non-GMO — grown and selected for flavor, vigor, and garden performance

Growing Notes

Direct sow outdoors 4–6 weeks before last frost for a spring crop, or in late summer (6–8 weeks before first fall frost) for a fall harvest. Lettuce prefers cool weather — flavor and texture are best when daytime temps stay below 75°F. Sow seeds ⅛ inch deep, thinning to 10–12 inches apart for full heads. Keep soil consistently moist. For cut-and-come-again harvests, pick outer leaves; for full heads, harvest when firm and before bolting.
