German Johnson (Lycopersicon lycopersicum) is the pride of Virginia and North Carolina — a large, deep pink heirloom beefsteak thought to be one of the four parent lines of the legendary “Radiator Charlie” Mortgage Lifter. Enormous 1–2 lb fruits are deep pink, very flavorful, and nearly crack-free. Rich, full tomato flavor with a meaty texture that makes every slice count. Indeterminate. 80–90 days.
Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors after frost danger has passed, spacing plants 24–36 inches apart in full sun. Stake or cage. Water consistently. Harvest when fruits are fully pink and slightly soft. 80–90 days from transplant.
