Craig's Grande Jalapeno, Hot Pepper,
Craig Grande is a large jalapeno with plumper and longer peppers than standard varieties. The large 3—to 4-inch-long peppers weigh 2-3 ounces and have thick flesh. They are great for roasting, drying, pickling, stuffing, or just slicing up fresh. Stocky, short plants loaded with hefty fruits from mid-summer up to frost. Craig Grande matures from green to red when they are at their hottest. They are thick, flavorful, and have excellent heat. They are open-pollinated and grow for 70 days.
The heat of the peppers can vary, even those on the same plant. If peppers grow fast, get plenty of water, and harvest soon, they may be milder than peppers that stay on the plant for a long time or develop slowly and under stressful conditions. Lack of water in hotter summers will produce smaller than usual peppers. Jalapenos are best harvested when green and are hottest when turning red and fully ripe, reaching 4,000-5,000 Scovil.
