Candy Mountain is an early-to-mid season open-pollinated yellow sweet corn with a flavor profile that sets it apart: a mix of sugar-enhanced (SE) and normal sugary (SU) kernels that gives it a richness sweeter than “old-timey” corn but not as cloying as most modern varieties. The SE trait keeps Candy Mountain sweet for a few days after picking — a practical advantage for home gardeners. Bred to grow five feet tall with great cool-soil emergence and early-season vigor, Candy Mountain also offers one of the most beautiful field presentations of any sweet corn: a burgundy tinge to the husks and leaves that is genuinely striking in the garden. 70–80 days.
Direct sow outdoors after the last frost. Good cool-soil emergence makes it suitable for early planting. Plant in blocks of at least 4×4 for good wind pollination — do not plant in single rows. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 8–12 inches apart, in rows 30–36 inches apart. Water consistently. Harvest when kernels are plump and milky — the silk should be brown and dry.
