Bushy comes from Russia, where its short 4–5 foot vines were selected specifically for gardeners with limited space — and it delivers bumper crops of black-spined cucumbers that are excellent for pickling or eating fresh in salads. A reliable pickler with dark green skin and crisp white flesh, Bushy is an early variety that is perfect for cool climates and those with size constraints. Compact enough for raised beds and small gardens, yet productive enough to keep the harvest basket full through the season. 45–50 days.
Direct sow outdoors after last frost when soil has warmed to at least 60°F, or start indoors 3–4 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds 1 inch deep in fertile, well-draining soil. Space plants 12–18 inches apart in full sun. Light trellising optional. Water consistently. Harvest frequently for continuous production.
