Bush Sugar Baby (Citrullus lanatus) is the compact, space-saving version of the classic Sugar Baby — a picnic staple for generations. Sweet, scarlet icebox melons grow on space-saving vines just 3½ feet long, producing plenty of 6–10-pound fruits. Dark green outside with bright red, firm, fine-grained flesh that is super sweet. Excellent for raised beds and containers. High in healthy antioxidants. 70–80 days.
Start indoors 3–4 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors after all frost danger has passed into warm soil in full sun. Space plants 2–3 feet apart. Water consistently. Harvest when the belly turns yellow and the tendril nearest the fruit dries.
