Brutus Zac — The New Jersey Heritage Heirloom With Massive 2–6 lb Glossy Red Beefsteak Fruits

Brutus Zac is a remarkable New Jersey heirloom tomato developed by Minnie Zaccaria by crossing two heirloom varieties — a true garden legacy with a compelling origin story. Plants produce good yields of very large, glossy red tomatoes ranging from 2 to 6 pounds at maturity, with excellent flavor that makes them outstanding for sandwiches, salads, and fresh eating. A genuine beefsteak-style heirloom with the size and taste to match. 80 days.

Why Grow Brutus Zac?

  • New Jersey heritage heirloom — developed by Minnie Zaccaria from two heirloom crosses
  • Massive 2–6 lb fruits — impressive beefsteak-style size
  • Glossy red at maturity — beautiful and visually striking
  • Excellent flavor — outstanding for sandwiches and salads
  • Good yields — productive plants for such large fruits
  • Open-pollinated heirloom — save seed year after year

Growing Notes

Start indoors 6–8 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep in fertile, well-draining soil. Transplant outdoors after all frost danger has passed, spacing plants 24–36 inches apart in full sun. Stake or cage — large fruits need support. Water consistently and deeply. Harvest when fruits are fully glossy red and give slightly to gentle pressure.
