Growing Notes

Direct sow outdoors in early spring 3–5 weeks before last frost, or in late summer for fall harvest. Sow seeds ⅛ inch deep, thinly, in rows 12 inches apart in full sun. Thin to 2–3 inches apart. Loosen soil deeply before sowing for straight root development. Keep soil consistently moist — uneven moisture causes cracking. Harvest at 4–6 inches for best quality, or allow to reach full 8–10 inch size. Good companion plants: beans, peas, tomatoes, onions, and leeks.
