Amsterdam is one of the finest carrots for baby bunching — an excellent variety for early harvests, container growing, and forcing in cold frames and greenhouses. Uniform 4–6 inch bright orange carrots with indistinct cores deliver clean, sweet flavor and beautiful presentation. An exceptional forcing variety, Amsterdam performs brilliantly in greenhouse production and cold frames for extra-early harvests — ready in just 40 days for baby carrots. Thrives in all U.S. zones and is perfectly sized for pots and containers. 50–60 days to full maturity.
Direct sow outdoors 3–5 weeks before last frost — carrots prefer cool weather. Sow seeds ⅛ inch deep, thinly, in rows 12 inches apart in full sun. Thin to 2–3 inches apart. Keep soil consistently moist — uneven moisture causes cracking. For baby carrots, harvest at 40 days. For cold frame or greenhouse forcing, sow in late winter for extra-early spring harvest. Loosen soil deeply before sowing for straight root development.
