The Rattlesnake Bean gets its name from the way its pods coil around the vine, resembling a snake — a distinctive and memorable heirloom pole bean with 6–8 inch pods characterized by distinctive purple markings. Seeds are light brown with brown markings that remain visible even after cooking. Rattlesnake beans thrive in hot climates, particularly in the American Southeast and mid-Atlantic regions, but can be successfully grown in other areas. 60–90 days.
Direct sow outdoors after last frost when soil has warmed to at least 65°F. Provide a trellis or support for climbing vines. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 4–6 inches apart. Water consistently. Harvest at 6–8 inches for best flavor. Pick frequently for continuous production.
