This multi-colored open-pollinated sweet corn, developed by Alan Kapuler, combines heirloom 'Luther Hill' and 'Painted Mountain' flour corn. It's ideal for cooler soils and short growing seasons, making it perfect for the Midwest. Ears measure 7-8 inches and can be harvested for fresh eating when the kernels are white to lightly colored or left to mature for a vibrant display. The flavor is complex and robust, less sweet than that of hybrid varieties, and it is packed with nutrients and antioxidants. Each stalk produces two or more ears, and the colorful kernels intensify as they dry, offering both culinary and ornamental appeal. Suitable for gardens and raised beds, Painted Hill Corn thrives in cool, wet soils and is drought-tolerant. Maturity: ~70-85 days
