Most pumpkins are grown for their flesh — Emerald Naked Seeded is grown for its seeds. This remarkable heirloom produces seeds with no hard outer shell, making them effortless to eat straight from the pumpkin or roast into a deeply flavorful, oil-rich snack. The seeds have a naturally emerald-green color, a satisfying crunch, and a rich, nutty flavor that puts store-bought pumpkin seeds to shame.
Vigorous vines produce medium-sized pumpkins that are easy to grow and incredibly rewarding at harvest. Crack one open, scoop the seeds, and roast them with a little salt — it’s one of the most satisfying things you can grow in a home garden.
Direct sow outdoors after last frost when soil has thoroughly warmed, or start indoors 3–4 weeks before transplanting. Plant in hills of 2–3 seeds, spacing hills 4–6 feet apart with rows 6–8 feet apart. Thin to the strongest plant per hill. Water deeply and consistently; pumpkins are heavy feeders — amend soil with compost before planting. Allow fruits to fully mature on the vine before harvesting for the best seed development and oil content.
