Black, Yellow & Red Brandywine Tomato Seed Collection

Grow a colorful tomato tasting garden with three separately packed Brandywine varieties. Black, Yellow, and Red Brandywine bring distinct colors and rich flavors to sandwiches, salads, and summer platters. Harvest each at its peak and discover your favorite side by side.

What’s Included

  • Black Brandywine: Dusky crimson-to-mahogany beefsteaks with meaty flesh and rich, earthy, sweet-tart flavor. Different leaf-type selections circulate under this name.
  • Yellow Brandywine: Golden-yellow beefsteaks with a creamy texture and rich flavor that can include a noticeable tang. Yellow color does not establish low acidity.
  • Red Brandywine: Red slicing tomatoes with juicy flesh and classic tomato flavor. Fruit shape and leaf type vary among named strains.

Choose your collection size: Three packets with approximately 25 seeds per packet, or three packets with approximately 50 seeds per packet. These are separately packed varieties, not a mixed packet.

Occasionally a variety may be temporarily out of stock. When that happens, we’ll substitute another Brandywine or heirloom beefsteak variety so your collection arrives complete.

Why Grow This Collection?

  • Three distinct colors: Compare dusky, golden-yellow, and red tomatoes in the garden and kitchen.
  • Fresh-eating versatility: Enjoy thick slices, sandwiches, salads, and tomato platters, or roast ripe fruit for sauces.
  • Open-pollinated heirlooms: Grow three named varieties without assuming they share an identical history or direct parentage.
  • Indeterminate growth: Support each plant for continuing vine development and fruiting during favorable weather.

Planting and Growing

Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before your intended transplant date. Sow approximately ¼ inch deep in seed-starting mix, provide warmth for germination, and give seedlings strong light. Harden off gradually before planting outdoors after frost danger has passed and conditions have warmed.

Choose full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Install sturdy stakes, cages, or trellises at planting time. Water consistently at soil level and mulch to conserve moisture. Maintain airflow while retaining enough foliage to shade developing fruit.

For square foot gardening, use 1 plant per sq ft (trellis required) with dedicated vertical training and regular pruning. Allow more space for caged or multi-stemmed plants. Each variety needs its own growing space.

Harvest Details

  • Maturity: Approximately 80–90 days from transplant as a collection planning range; the varieties will not necessarily ripen together.
  • Growth habit: Indeterminate; sturdy support required.
  • Fruit: Slicing and beefsteak types; size, shape, and leaf traits depend on the included selection and growing conditions.
  • Botanical name: Solanum lycopersicum.
  • Life cycle: Frost-tender warm-season annual.

Harvest when each fruit develops its variety’s mature color and yields slightly to gentle pressure. Black Brandywine can retain darker shoulders; Yellow Brandywine will not turn red. Handle ripe fruit gently.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all three varieties the same tomato in different colors?

No. They are distinct named selections with different histories and traits. A shared Brandywine name does not prove identical ancestry.

Is Yellow Brandywine low-acid?

That claim is not made here. Flavor and fruit color do not establish measured acidity.

Do I receive three packets?

Yes. Choose approximately 25 or 50 seeds per packet. The collection contains one packet of each listed variety, subject to the substitution note above.
