Early Jersey Wakefield, Cabbage,
Distinctive pointy 2-3 lb heads. The compact plant allows close spacing. Excellent flavor and tender texture. This classic early cabbage was first grown in America in 1840. It is more widely grown than all other first early cabbages combined, and it is an old, reliable, always to be depended upon for its uniformity in earliness and crop. Considered an excellent fall cabbage as well. Wakefield's compact medium 2–3 lb heads are distinctively pointy. The pyramidal shape with sparse outside foliage permits close spacing. Tender, flavorful, waxy-looking Wakefield is prized by home and market gardeners. It's not suitable for storage. Open-pollinated. Heirloom. (63 days)
