Sweet Thai Basil β known as βHoraphaβ in Thailand and βHun QuαΊΏβ in Vietnam β is the authentic Thai basil with a distinctive spicy, anise-clove flavor that sets it apart from Italian sweet basil. The 3β4 inch green leaves and attractive purple stems are complemented by clusters of deep purple flowers that are themselves edible and flavorful. Late flowering results in high herb yields β pick young shoots regularly to extend the harvest and keep plants productive. Vigorous, easy to grow with few disease and pest problems. Outstanding in both Thai and Italian cooking, and as a garnish for drinks, salads, soups, pasta, and desserts. 72β90 days.
Start indoors 4β6 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds β inch deep in fertile, well-draining soil. Transplant outdoors after all frost danger has passed and nights are consistently above 50Β°F, spacing plants 12β18 inches apart in full sun. Pick young shoots regularly to extend harvest β do not let plants dry out. Late flowering means longer productive season than most basil varieties. Cold temperatures cause blackening of leaves.
