Red Acre (Brassica oleracea) is a classic early red cabbage — dense, deep purple, small round heads great for colorful coleslaw, salads, and cooking. Compact plants on short stems produce round, reddish-purple heads 5–7 inches in diameter, weighing about 3 lbs. Stores better than most early cabbages. Also excellent for microgreens at 10–15 days. 76 days to maturity. 200+ seeds per packet.
Sow in spring for early summer crops, or before fall frost for fall crops. Start indoors 4–6 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors spacing plants 12–18 inches apart in full sun. Water consistently. Harvest at 76 days when heads are firm and solid. Stores well — better than most early varieties.
