Crosbys Egyptian, Beets,
This heirloom beet originated in Germany and is the most widely grown beet globally. Beets are very sweet and early without any "earthy" taste. One of the largest and earliest varieties, this plant will produce a heavy yield of round, flat, delicious beets ideal for pickling, boiling, or baking. Heart-shaped roots are flattened and dark red in color, while the erect tops are medium green and grow up to 16" tall. This beet came to America in 1869 via Germany, not Egypt. Crosby's Egyptian beets come from the work and research of Josiah Crosby of Massachusetts. This perfect fall storage beet is earlier to mature than other storage varieties; an ideal late summer-sown beet to fill the winter pantry. They mature in 45 to 55 days.
