Wild Arugula (Diplotaxis tenuifolia) is the perennial cousin of common garden arugula — and in many ways, the superior one. Far more tolerant of heat and drought, wild arugula is a persistent, weedy perennial that returns year after year once established. The flavor is still bright and peppery, but with a more complex, subtle profile than traditional culinary arugula — a mild, savory depth that makes it a favorite component in leafy green and salad mixes. Ready for harvest in about 6 weeks, it keeps producing long after common arugula has bolted. An excellent choice for gardeners who want a low-maintenance, self-sustaining salad green. 40–45 days.
Direct sow outdoors in early spring or fall in full sun to part shade. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep, thinly. Thin to 6 inches. Tolerates heat and drought far better than common arugula. Harvest leaves regularly to encourage continuous production. Once established, self-sows and returns as a perennial in mild climates.
