Klondike Striped Blue Ribbon (Citrullus lanatus) was bred by Mr. Porter of California and introduced in the early 1900s. A classic home garden watermelon — very sweet crimson red flesh with a tough, light and dark green striped rind that ships well. Reaches 25–30 pounds. Perfect for the home gardener who wants a large, reliable, sweet watermelon. 90 days.
Start indoors 3–4 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors after all frost danger has passed into warm soil in full sun. Give vines plenty of room to run. Water consistently. Harvest when the belly turns yellow and the tendril nearest the fruit dries.
