Saladmore Bush F1 Hybrid Cucumber Seeds

Grow crisp, sweet cucumbers without dedicating a whole garden row to sprawling vines. Saladmore Bush F1 has a compact, semi-bush habit that suits raised beds, roomy containers, and smaller vegetable gardens. Pick the dark green fruit young for pickling, or let it reach slicing size for cool salads, sandwiches, and fresh cucumber spears.

Compact Plants, Full-Size Cucumbers

This F1 hybrid produces tapered, cylindrical cucumbers about 7–8 inches long at slicing size. Its roughly 24-inch spread makes it easier to fit into a small-space garden than a long-running cucumber, though it still needs room for leaves and airflow. Saladmore Bush earned a 2014 All-America Selections regional award.

Growing Instructions

  • Sun and soil: Choose full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Keep moisture consistent, especially during flowering and fruit development.
  • When to sow: Sow after frost danger has passed and the soil has warmed. Warm soil around 75–85°F supports germination, typically in 6–10 days.
  • Sowing depth: Plant about 1 inch deep.
  • Spacing: Allow about 18–24 inches between plants. In a square-foot bed, reserve a 2-by-2-foot area per plant rather than crowding neighboring crops.
  • Containers and support: Use a roomy container with drainage. A small trellis can lift vines and fruit off the soil; anchor it securely inside the container or bed.
  • Pollination: Allow access for pollinators. Do not treat this variety as a seedless, parthenocarpic greenhouse cucumber.

Harvest Details

  • Seeds per packet: Approximately 10+ seeds.
  • Days to maturity: Approximately 55 days from sowing under suitable growing conditions; weather can change timing.
  • Fruit: Dark green, tapered cucumbers about 7–8 inches long for slicing.
  • Harvest: Pick smaller fruit for pickling and larger, still-tender fruit for fresh use. Check plants frequently, and snip stems rather than pulling the vines.
  • Plant habit: Semi-bush annual, approximately 24–26 inches tall with about a 24-inch spread; support affects its shape.
  • Botanical name: Cucumis sativus.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Saladmore Bush an heirloom?

No. Saladmore Bush is an F1 hybrid. Seed saved from its fruit may not grow true to the parent plant.

Can I grow it in a raised bed?

Yes. Reserve enough space for its semi-bush growth and keep nearby plants from shading or crowding the foliage.

Is it only a pickling cucumber?

No. Harvest young fruit for pickling or allow it to reach 7–8 inches for crisp fresh slices and spears.
