Purple Tomatillo is a scarce heirloom variety of tomatillo that is very sweet and slightly tangy. This dark purple fruit is a bit larger than the traditional green tomatillo. The flavor is much sweeter than its green cousin and less sticky; removing the husk, a tomatillo is slightly sticky). A tomatillo grows within a papery husk and begins a light green color and, when ripe, turns a gorgeous dark purple. The inside of the tomatillo is also a beautiful shade of purple. Tomatillos are used in many Mexican dishes and are the main ingredient in many salsas and sauces. The culture and care are similar to those of tomatoes. Still, tomatillo plants will not self-pollinate, so two or more plants (of any tomatillo variety) are needed for good fruit production. 85 Days.
