Discovered by Henry Fields in the Ozark Mountains in the 1930s, Purple Podded Pole Bean is one of the most beautiful and flavorful pole beans available. Growing to over 6 feet with purple vines and pretty bicolored flowers, it produces 5–7 inch pods that are high-quality, richly flavored, and completely stringless — turning dark green when cooked. Delectable fresh and excellent for canning. 68 days.
Direct sow outdoors after last frost when soil has warmed to at least 60°F. Provide a trellis or support for 6+ foot vines. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 4–6 inches apart. Water consistently. Harvest at 5–7 inches for best flavor. Pick frequently for continuous production.
