Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) is a native North American perennial wildflower with a history of medicinal use stretching back over 400 years — used by Great Plains Indian tribes long before European settlers adopted it. Beautiful 3–4-inch purple-pink blooms with contrasting orange cones on solid stems. Once established, bushy plants produce clusters of flowers that attract butterflies, bees, and beneficial insects. Heat- and drought-tolerant. One of the easiest Echinacea to grow. Excellent for butterfly gardens and long-lasting cut flowers. 100+ seeds per packet.
Direct sow outdoors in fall for spring germination, or cold-stratify seeds for 4–8 weeks and start indoors in late winter. Surface sow — seeds need light to germinate. Transplant outdoors in full sun, well-drained soil. Space plants 18–24 inches apart. Drought-tolerant once established. Perennial in Zones 3–9.
