Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) is a native North American perennial wildflower with a history of medicinal use stretching back over 400 years — used by Great Plains Indian tribes long before European settlers adopted it. Beautiful 3–4-inch purple-pink blooms with contrasting orange cones on solid stems. Once established, bushy plants produce clusters of flowers that attract butterflies, bees, and beneficial insects. Heat and drought tolerant. One of the easiest Echinacea to grow. Excellent for butterfly gardens and long-lasting cut flowers. 100+ seeds per packet.
Direct sow outdoors in fall for spring germination, or cold-stratify seeds for 4–8 weeks and start indoors in late winter. Surface sow — seeds need light to germinate. Transplant outdoors in full sun, well-drained soil. Space plants 18–24 inches apart. Drought tolerant once established. Perennial in Zones 3–9.
