Thelesperma megapotamicum — also called Colorado Greenthread, this native perennial herb has been brewed as a soothing tea and used as a traditional remedy by Puebloan peoples for centuries. Slender, thread-like stems with small yellow flowers that attract Sulphur butterflies. Hardy, drought-tolerant, and beautiful in the garden. Grows as a perennial in USDA Zones 3–12.
Direct sow in fall for spring germination, or cold-stratify for 30–60 days and sow in early spring. Prefers well-drained, sandy or loamy soil in full sun. Drought-tolerant once established. Space 4 inches apart in square-foot gardens. Perennial in Zones 3–12; may self-seed freely.
