Mongolian Giant β€” The Heirloom Sunflower With 18" Flower Heads, 14-Foot Plants, and Edible Seeds for Birds and People

Mongolian Giant is one of the most spectacular sunflowers you can grow β€” enormous vibrant yellow flower heads that can reach 18 inches across on towering plants up to 14 feet tall. Once the blooms fade, you and the birds will be rewarded with an abundance of edible seeds to snack on all season. Deer resistant, open-pollinated, and easy to grow from seed with germination in just 5–12 days. A true statement plant for any garden.

Why Grow Mongolian Giant?

  • Enormous 18" flower heads β€” vibrant yellow, one of the largest sunflowers available
  • 14-foot plants β€” a dramatic, towering statement in any garden
  • Edible seeds β€” abundant harvest for birds and people alike
  • Deer resistant β€” reliable in gardens with deer pressure
  • Fast germination β€” 5–12 days from planting
  • Open-pollinated heirloom β€” save seed year after year

Growing Notes

Direct sow outdoors after last frost in full sun. Thin seedlings to 2 feet apart when about 3 inches tall. Water consistently β€” daily watering encourages faster growth. To save seeds: cut the stem beneath flower heads when the backs turn yellow. Hang upside down in a cool, dry place for about a month. Cover with netting or a paper sack with holes to catch seeds as they dry.
