Minnesota Midget (Cucumis melo) was developed by the University of Minnesota and introduced to the seed market by Farmer Seed Co. in 1948. An extremely early melon packed with fruit — just 4 inches across with sweet orange flesh, a perfect miniature version of the classic muskmelon weighing 1 to 1½ pounds. Excellent flavor and very sweet. Compact 3–4-foot vines produce prolifically, perfect for smaller gardens, containers, and short growing seasons. 60–70 days.
Start indoors 3–4 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors after all frost danger has passed into warm soil in full sun. Space plants 2–3 feet apart. Water consistently. Harvest when rind turns golden and melon slips from vine.
