King Richard Leek, Heirloom Seeds — The Fast-Maturing Leek With 12"+ Pristine White Stems

King Richard (Allium ampeloprasum) is a fast-maturing heirloom leek delivering impressive yields of elongated, pristine white stems — often exceeding 12 inches — paired with upright medium-green foliage. Ideal for gardeners seeking early harvests. Dense planting at 40 seeds per foot produces tender finger-sized leeks perfect for specialty markets or home use. Frost-tolerant to 20°F. Premium soil and consistent care unlock its full potential.

Why Grow King Richard?

  • 12"+ pristine white stems — elongated, impressive, and market-ready
  • Fast-maturing — ideal for early harvests ahead of other leek varieties
  • Dense planting option — 40 seeds per foot for tender finger-sized specialty leeks
  • Frost-tolerant to 20°F — stands up admirably to moderate frost
  • Open-pollinated heirloom — save seed year after year

Growing Notes

Start indoors 10–12 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep in fertile, well-draining soil. Transplant outdoors after frost danger has passed, spacing plants 6 inches apart (or densely at 40 per foot for finger-sized leeks) in full sun. Hill soil up around stems as they grow to blanch and lengthen the white portion. Water consistently. Harvest when stems reach desired size.
