Kale Garden Seed Kit — 6 Heirloom Varieties, Cold-Hardy & Sweetens After Frost

Kale is one of the most nutritious vegetables you can grow — and one of the easiest. This Heirloom Kale Seed Kit brings together six of our favorite cold-hardy varieties, from the deeply savoy Lacinato Dinosaur to the frilly Blue Curled Scotch, giving you a full spectrum of textures, flavors, and harvest windows all in one kit. Every variety sweetens noticeably after frost, making fall and winter the best time to be in the kale patch.

What's in the Kit

  • Premier Kale — smooth, tender leaves; fast-maturing and heat-tolerant; excellent for spring and fall harvests
  • White Russian Kale — flat, deeply lobed leaves with white stems; mild, sweet flavor; very cold-hardy
  • Red Russian Kale — tender, oak-shaped leaves with purple-red stems; sweet and mild; one of the most popular heirloom kales
  • Dwarf Siberian Kale — compact, frilly blue-green leaves; extremely cold-hardy; great for small spaces and containers
  • Lacinato Dinosaur Kale — the classic Italian heirloom; dark, pebbled, strap-like leaves; rich, earthy flavor; a kitchen staple
  • Blue Curled Scotch Kale — deeply curled, blue-green leaves; classic ornamental and culinary kale; very cold-hardy and productive

Occasionally a variety may be temporarily out of stock. When that happens, we'll substitute an equally wonderful heirloom kale variety so your kit always arrives with 6 full packets of seed.

In the Kitchen

Massage raw Red Russian or White Russian into salads. Roast Lacinato with olive oil and sea salt for crispy kale chips. Sauté Blue Curled Scotch with garlic and lemon. Blend Premier Kale into smoothies. Braise Dwarf Siberian low and slow with beans and broth. The variety in this kit means you'll never run out of ways to cook it.

Growing Notes

Direct sow outdoors 4–6 weeks before last frost in spring, or in late summer for fall harvest. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep, 2–3 inches apart; thin to 12–18 inches. Full sun to part shade. Keep soil consistently moist. Harvest outer leaves continuously for extended production. Flavor improves significantly after frost — plan a fall planting for the best-tasting kale of the season.
