The most popular hot pepper in America, Jalapeño delivers thick-walled, moderately hot pods in a deep green that slowly matures to bright red. At 3–4” long and 1½” wide, these versatile pods are exceptional for fresh salsa, pickling, and stuffing. The skin may develop a natural netting pattern as the fruit ages — a sign of maturity, not a flaw.
Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before last frost. Transplant to full sun in fertile, well-draining soil, spacing 18 inches apart. Keep evenly watered. Harvest green for classic jalapeño flavor, or allow to ripen red for a sweeter, hotter pod.
