Also known as Cocozelle, Italian Striped Zucchini is approximately 250 years old — a genuine piece of Italian garden heritage that has survived for good reason. Great flavor is the defining characteristic of this variety: best fried, grilled, or roasted at 8–10 inches, when the dark- and light-green striped skin and tender flesh are at their peak, though it is also good when larger. Every garden needs a few of these — it's a gardener's heritage, and the seeds can be saved year after year. Give away a few zucchini every summer and make it an extraordinary one. 50 days.
Direct sow outdoors after the last frost, when the soil has warmed to at least 60°F, or start indoors 3–4 weeks before the last frost. Sow seeds 1 inch deep in fertile, well-draining soil. Space plants 24–36 inches apart in full sun. Water consistently. Harvest at 8–10 inches for best flavor — pick frequently for continuous production.
