Honey Rock (Cucumis melo) is an heirloom cantaloupe developed at Michigan State University — typically sweeter and firmer than other cantaloupe melons. Ideal for home gardens in cool climates. Melons grow 6 by 5 inches and weigh 4–6 pounds at full maturity. Greenish-grey skin with tough rind. Deep salmon flesh that is very sweet, firm, and juicy. Vigorous vines produce 5–7 melons each. 80 days.
Start indoors 3–4 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors after all frost danger has passed into warm soil in full sun. Space plants 3–4 feet apart. Water consistently. Harvest when rind turns golden and melon slips from vine.
