Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus) is one of the most beloved cottage garden annuals — producing stunning vivid blue blooms on long stems from early summer through fall. Open-pollinated and true-to-type, these heirloom cornflowers are as beautiful in a vase as they are in a salad. Edible flowers add color and mild flavor to culinary dishes and dried floral arrangements. Excellent for cutting gardens, containers, and garden beds. 60–70 days.
Direct sow outdoors in early spring as soon as soil can be worked, or in fall for early spring bloom. Sow seeds ¼ inch deep, 6 inches apart, in full sun. Thin to 12 inches. Keep soil consistently moist until established. Deadhead regularly to extend bloom season. Self-sows freely once established.
