Bunching Beets, Heirloom Seeds — Dual Harvest Flat Globe Roots and Exceptional Market Greens

Green Top Bunching Beets are the market grower's beet — a dual-purpose variety selected as much for its exceptional tops as for its roots. Flattened globe-shaped roots are deep purplish-red, 3 inches across, tasty, and excellent for cooking, pickling, and winter storage. But the real standout is the tops: tall, vigorous, 15-inch dark green leaves with red veins that are glossy, beautiful, and exceptional as a market greens crop. Harvest the glossy red-veined tops for salads as the plant grows, then harvest the roots at full maturity. An excellent all-around beet that pickles beautifully and stores in the ground over winter. 48–60 days.

Why Grow Bunching Beets?

  • Exceptional market greens — tall, vigorous 15-inch dark green tops with red veins
  • Dual harvest — harvest greens as it grows, roots at full maturity
  • Flat globe roots — deep purplish-red, 3 inches across, excellent for cooking and pickling
  • Stores in the ground over winter — excellent for late-season and storage crops
  • First early beet for mid-summer sowing — reliable and productive
  • Open-pollinated heirloom — save seed year after year

Growing Notes

Direct sow outdoors 4–6 weeks before last frost or in late summer for fall harvest. Sow seeds ½ inch deep, 1 inch apart, in rows 12 inches apart. Thin to 3–4 inches for root production. Full sun. Keep soil consistently moist. Harvest greens as needed; harvest roots at 48–60 days when 2–3 inches in diameter.
